SEPTEMBER 2024
Bantry house was an optional stop in our Ireland itinerary, which we would do if we would have sufficient time. Luckily, Bantry house was on our route from Ring of Kerry to Cork and were able to make a stop, because I found the gardens of Bantry house one of the highlights of our Ireland roadtrip.
Practical information
Bantry House is located in the South of Ireland. It is about a one hour’s drive from Kenmare, which is part of the Ring of Kerry. Entrance tickets cost € 14 per adult, they give access to the gardens and the house. Usually you can join a guided visit of the house, the times will be indicated once you buy your ticket. You can also do a self-guided visit. There is a little cafe on the grounds, where you can stop for a high tea or light lunch.
The gardens of Bantry House
You are not allowed to take pictures inside of Bantry House, so I have no pictures of the interior. It was a very charming house, with lovely items such as an old doll house, so I highly recommend visiting inside. The information regarding the history was also really interesting, so definitely join the tour. I found that mostly Irish tourists seem to visit Bantry house, which was why it was pretty quiet during the summer holidays. Bantry house definitely deserves more visitors, so I hope to inspire you with this blogpost.
Luckily I could go all out in the gardens of Bantry House, as we visited during summer time everything was in bloom. There is an Italian style garden, with a fountain surrounded by wisteria and a stairs with terraced gardens. There also is an English style garden with colorful borders and sweet peas. Definitely go all the way up the stairs as you will get a beautiful view over the house and Bantry bay. When it comes to gardens I think pictures say more than words and I hope I have been able to capture how stunning these gardens are.
