MARCH 2026
This year I was able to visit Düsseldorf while the cherry blossoms and magnolias were at its prettiest. I always love visiting new blossom spots and Düsseldorf certainly did not disappoint. I have visited Düsseldorf several times before and it is a lively city for a weekend getaway. Usually I visit for the Christmas markets and I loved discovering a different side of Düsseldorf, exploring all the pretty parks which just started to turn pink and green. In this blogpost I will give you all my recommendations for the early cherry blossoms!
Where we stayed
We chose The Niu Tab as our hotel. I was quite late with booking and was able to book a room for € 80 per night, including the gigantic breakfast buffet. The Niu has a garage as well and I had to pay an additional fee for my car. The room was modern and comfortable and we were lucky with great views over the Düsseldorf skyline. The Niu features a restaurant, bar and lounge as well. It was very well equipped to stay with kids, as they also had lots of games and books etc. Overall, we were very satisfied and would book again. The location is just behind the central station, meaning all public transport is within reach.

Where to find the cherry blossoms
Kö-bogen
Next to the Kö-bogen shopping center you will find the Hofgarten which features magnolias and cherry blossoms. The cherry blossoms right next to Kö-bogen are the earliest ones in bloom in the city. When we visited at March 20 they were just past their prime. Please note that the cherries bloomed really early in 2026. I still loved this spot, we watched the sun go down and did some people watching. It was very lively with people enjoying Friday drinks underneath the cherry blossoms.

Goltsteinparterre
I think this is technically still in the Hofgarten, but at the other side of the road from Kö-bogen. At the Goltsteinparterre I found giant magnolia trees. As this is very central in the city, it was quite a busy spot. The magnolias generally bloom at around the same time as the early blooming cherry varieties.

Volksgarten
I parked at Parkplatz Volksgarten and immediately bumped into the meadow with the enormous magnolia trees. These trees specifically had very low branches, making it some of the fullest blooming magnolias I have ever seen. They were surrounded by daffodils, making it a magical scene. If you are looking for a cute coffee bar I would recommend Das Lilo, a very bohemian cafe. Close to Das Lilo you will also find an amazing playground for kids.

Südpark
When you are in Volksgarten, it is only a short walk to Südpark. In Südpark near the Deichsee you will find Düsseldorf’s famous cherry blossom alley. Again, perfectly peaking at around March 21. Another good spot is Phloxgarten / Gemeinschaftsgarten, where we found some more hot pink cherry trees.

Schloss Benrath
Schloss Benrath features a few lovely magnolias which have the pink palace as their backdrop. We visited on a super sunshiny day, in the afternoon. Therefore it got pretty crowded at the magnolias, so I didn’t take too many pictures. We came for the magnolia and ended up loving the interiors of the castle as well. I will do a separate blogpost on Schloss Benrath.

Other recommendations
Of course there are many other locations in Düsseldorf where you can find beautiful cherry blossoms. I thought about visiting the Japanese garden as well, but as this is in the North it was quite out of our way. This is your chance to take a picture with a cherry blossoms & a Japanese pagoda though! We combined our visit to Düsseldorf with a visit to the Easter park of Gertrudenhof, which you can read all about here. Düsseldorf has surrounding villages with great blossoms as well, such as Kaarst and Neuss. A few weeks after the early cherry blossoms, which have smaller blooms, you will find the hot pink cherries with bigger blooms (Kwanzan cherry trees). These are absolutely gorgeous in Bonn, this is my blogpost on the experience. I hope to revisit again this year! If you have some other recommendations for blossoms in Düsseldorf, please leave them in the comments.
