CHERRY BLOSSOM PARK IN AMSTERDAM

APRIL 2020

When I discovered that the cherry blossoms in the Cherry blossom park in Amsterdam were starting to bloom, I immediately went to Amsterdam to visit the park. The Cherry blossom park currently is even more busy than in other years, because visiting a public park is one of the most popular activities during these Corona times. I went to visit just before the government advised to stay home and I found the park pretty crowded, though people were keeping distance from each other. After my visit the forester advised not to come to the park anymore, as the crowds were getting too big. Luckily, I took some pictures! And we will always have next year…

The Japanese Cherry Blossoms

Visiting Japan in cherry blossom season has been on my bucket list for quite some time and it will probably stay there for a while, so I found this cute alternative for traveling to Japan. Each spring you will find cherry blossoms in bloom in the Cherry blossom park in the Amsterdamse Bos (Forest of Amsterdam). There are 400 cherry blossom trees and they were donated by the Japanese Women Club. The Japanese community of Amsterdam will come to the cherry blossom trees to celebrate the cherry blossoms (sakura).

The cherry blossoms usually appear between the end of March and the end of April and the better the weather the longer the flowers bloom. It is easiest to visit the cherry blossom park by car as you can park really close to the cherry blossoms, but there are some public transport options as well.

Pictures to inspire you to visit the park (next year!)

And yes… I changed clothes in the park and took pictures of myself with a tripod.. Which I did shame free, which was incredibly liberating!
