CROSSING HIGHLINE 179

After seeing pictures of Highline 179, world’s longest foot suspension bridge in the middle of the mountains of Tirol, I knew I had to visit it. So when we were driving to our skiing destination we decided to make a stop at Highline 179.

When you arrive you will see this!

How to get there

You can park your car close to the visitor center. We bought tickets at the visitor center for € 8 each. You can also buy tickets at the ticket machines that are situated right next to the bridge itself, but the machines are cash only. The bridge itself is open daily from 8 AM to 10 PM. The visitor center is open shorter and times vary in summer and winter. We visited during the day, but maybe some other time we will be able to visit at night. From the visitor center it is a walk of 20 minutes to the bridge itself, when we were there the snow was melting because it was a really hot day, so the walk was pretty slippery. The walk to the bridge wasn’t arduous, but it is a good idea to wear comfortable shoes, as the road is not paved.

What to do

I was super cool to walk on the bridge, the views were breathtaking and because it was windy it was kind of exiting as well. From the bridge you do not only have views of the Alps, but there are also many ruins located close to the bridge, so you get great views of those as well. Unfortunately we were short on time, so we did not get to visit the castle next to the highline (Castle Ehrenburg).

I would recommend taking at least 2 hours for your visit, because of the time it takes to get to the bridge from your car. If it is a sunny day you can also bring a bottle of wine and a picnic rug and make a romantic activity out of it, at the other side of the bridge there is some space where you can relax and take in the views!

The picnic spot with Castle views.
