OCTOBER 2024
If you are looking for an original activity in Belfast, look no further than the botanic gardens! Of course you also have to take a walking tour, to learn about Belfast’s violent and tragic past, but this does not mean you cannot pack a little bit of colorful fun into your itinerary! During summer time the botanic gardens look their absolute best, so if you are interested in flowers and gardens, I highly recommend visiting the botanic gardens.

Practical information
The botanic gardens are located just a few kilometers outside of the city center. We drove our van to the gardens and parked our van in the parking lot, but the walk is about 30 minutes and there are several options with public transport as well. The botanic gardens consist of two large greenhouses, a rose garden, a seasonal garden, herbaceous borders, a large park with a ferris wheel and a big playground next door. The entrance is free, so it is wild it isn’t frequented more.

Belfast botanic gardens
What I found particularly interesting about the Belfast botanic gardens is the big difference between the two large greenhouses: the Victorian Palm House and the hyper-modern Tropical Ravine. Such a stellar contrast and both really worth a visit. The seasonal display in front of the Palm House was so vibrant that we had to take a stop to do a full-on photo session! We always love discovering new plants and especially the palm house featured lots of flowers that I hadn’t seen before.
