SEPTEMBER 2025
If you are traveling to Norway by ferry, chances are that you arrive to Kristiansand. Most people leave Kristiansand right away and therefore miss out on a true hidden gem: Kunstsilo. Kunstsilo is an art museum inside of a renovated grain silo. This sounded really interesting to me, so I added it to our itinerary. It was even better than expected! The building is spectacular, the art was innovative and varied and the museum was kid-friendly as well. I have added a short impression of pictures to this blog, so you can see why you must visit this gorgeous art museum!
Kunstsilo Kristiansand
No need to buy tickets before your visit, we just bought them upon arrival. You can check the opening hours on the official website. Exhibitions change every half year, we loved what was to see in the summer of 2025. The museum provides an interesting insight into Scandinavian art, which we were not familiar with besides Munch. There were lots of impressionist style paintings, as well as digital artworks, an interesting combo. The museum spreads out over several levels, which are interconnected with elevators and stairs. Every level has its own theme and looks out into the atrium in the middle. I personally found the art to be presented really well, with neutral lighting and no distractions. On several levels there were activities for kids, they could even participate in a workshop. On top of the museum there is a restaurant/Panorama bar. It looked quite fancy, so we skipped this one. We did have some cakes in the brasserie downstairs, it definitely is a good spot for lunch as well. Overall we were really impressed with this museum. I think pictures say more than words, so enjoy the pictures of Kunstsilo below.
