HOW TO SPEND THREE DAYS IN BOHEMIAN SWITZERLAND WITH A TODDLER

FEBRUARY 2023

We spent our Christmas break in Czech Republic, combining Prague with Bohemian Switzerland. I absolutely loved this combination, as well as the activities that we did in Bohemian Switzerland. In this blogpost I will give you the perfect activities once you are in Bohemian Switzerland for three days. We took it slow, as Hielke had to hike with little Hugo on his back and we went back to the hotel for his naps.

Where to stay

If you want to go off-grid and stay in a nature pod this is absolutely possinble in Bohemian Switzerland. However, we decided to stay in the city called Decin, where we found a very nice hotel with a restaurant and where we would have some other distractions too. Another option is Hrensko, but I do think it might be too touristy to really want to stay.

Our hotel Armex Live Centrum didn’t look very appealing from the outside, but it turned out to be a great hotel!

We stayed in the Armex Live Centrum hotel, where we had a gigantic appartment for € 125 per night. We loved how well arranged, clean and modern everything was in this hotel. Apparantly, the restaurant was voted best restaurant of the Bohemian Switzerland region and we could easily understand why. The menu was incredibly varied, the food was delicious and not too expensive. The hotel was also very kid friendly, they had a playing room and provided a comfortable baby bed and had sufficient high chairs. The location was perfect, only a short walk into town and a short drive to nature.

Activities

Decin Castle: Decin featured a lovely castle, with a very original entrance way. We loved wandering around, especially as the castle was still decked out in Christmas decorations. Make sure to also walk around the castle, as the views from the village below were also spectacular.

Panska Skala: Panska Skala is a very interesting rock formation near a little lake. It reminded me of the black sand beaches in Iceland, though it was much smaller. There is a free parking lot at the other side of Panska Skala, than where maps says. Please use this parking lot as we almost got fined for parking incorrectly.

Tiske Steny: I know I keep going on about rock formations, but Czech Republic has some spectacular rocks 😉 We loved our trip to Tiske Steny, which was only a twenty minute drive from Decin. I loved exploring this part of Bohemian Switzerland so much, that I wrote a separate blogpost on it, which you can find here. Tiske Steny was incredible kid friendly, we saw lots of kids enjoying the little hike!

Pravcicka Brana: The most famous one of my recommendation, the picture perfect arch “Pravcicka Brana”. It is a little bit more of a struggle to get here, as you must undertake a mildly intensive one hour hike to get here, but I promise you it is worth a little excersize. You can find all my tips for visiting Pravicka Brana in this guide. Just know that this hike is not suitable for little kids, as it is too much uphil for a toddler to finish it, so bring a baby carrier.
