LAVENDER FIELDS IN THE UK: VISITING YORKSHIRE LAVENDER

NOVEMBER 2022

If you want to see lavender fields, you don’t have to go to France. During our summer trip to the United Kingdom we visited beautiful lavender fields in Yorkshire, England. Throughout England you will find lavender fields, they are a bit more scattered through the country than in France, but magical nonetheless. We loved our visit to Yorkshire lavender and I highly recommend to put a visit to a lavender farm on your list if you are visiting the UK in summer time.

Lavender season UK

Lavender season in the UK is around June-July, of course depending on the weather and the area. In the South the lavender usually blooms earlier than in the North. I didn’t know that there would be such a big weather difference between the South and the North, but discovered that it was the case. In 2019 I visited lavender fields at the Hop Shop in Kent in early July and we were just able to catch the last tail of the lavender season. Cotswolds lavender had already ended blooming early July. While this year when visiting Yorkshire Lavender at the end of July the lavender had just started blooming. I would recommend to check out the Instagram of the lavender farm that you want to visit, to know for sure you will visit when the lavender is blooming. These are some famous lavender farms in the UK that you can visit: Yorkshire Lavender, Castle Farm/The Hop Shop in Kent, Cotswolds Lavender, Somerset Lavender, Hitchin Lavender and Norfolk Lavender.

Note that most lavender farms require you to book your visit via their website.

Practical information

We booked tickets for Yorkshire Lavender about a week in advance for 6 pounds per adult. When you are visiting in the weekend the tickets sell out a little bit faster than during the week, but generally you don’t have to book many days in advance. We booked the earliest time slot and stayed for about 2 hours, but it didn’t get really crowded while we were visiting. We didn’t visit on the most sunny day, so it might get busier when the weather is better. You will find sufficient parking on site. Next to a visit to the lavender fields, you can also bring a visit to a lavender maze, garden, garden shop and there is a restaurant with sun terrace as well. We found Yorkshire lavender very child friendly, as kids could roam around freely and there was a big playing area with sand pits and other fun activities.

You can make a full day out of visiting Yorkshire Lavender, if you combine your visit with Castle Howard. Castle Howard is an iconic stately home, which is most famous as a filming location for Brideshead Revisited and Bridgerton. You can book a tickets via the official website.
