AUGUST 2024
By the time this blog is published, lavender season is over and we have to wait another 10-11 months until we can enjoy this purple spectacle again. On my summer trip to England I was able to visit Mayfield lavender, which besides being beautiful, was also such a good activity with kids. My mother, Hugo and I met up with our friend from London and her daughter and had a lovely few hours in the fields!
Practical information
Mayfield lavender is located at the edge of London, yes you heard that right; lavender fields near London! We passed the ULEZ (ultra-low-emission-zone), so make sure to check whether your car meets the requirements and register accordingly. Mayfield asks an entrance fee of 5 pounds per adult. During the weekend it can get quite busy at the lavender farm, so we visited at a Friday morning which was very doable. There is a food stall where you can get coffee and cakes and a light lunch. They sell lots of lavender delicacies, which was fun to try. Of course you will also find a shop on the farm, selling lots of lavender goodies. If you check out the official website you can also enroll in activities, such as a high tea, yoga, prosecco night etc. Mayfield usually opens half June and is open until half August.

In the lavender fields you will find lots of funny objects, with which you can take pictures. I loved the old telephone booth which they had planted in the fields, but you can also find a heart shape, tractor etc. For the kids there is a little train driving around the fields, for which you have to pay a small fee. I forgot to take a picture of it. Our kids loved to run around the fields and this wasn’t discouraged at all!
