BEST OF TRAVEL 2021

I can’t believe it is 2022 already! 2021 was another year that flew by, not in the least because little Hugo Xabi joined our lives. Right now he is 11 months old and he already visited 7 countries in his first year on earth, a true travel baby. To be honest, I had no idea what traveling with a baby would be like and it turned out much more fun than I expected. Traveling with a baby gives you new perspectives on things and I note that people are much more friendly when they see a little smiling baby entering their restaurant. Even though travel was still not as easy as before in 2021, we tried to make the most out of it. We went on several roadtrips with our van and two times we took the plane (oh how I missed that!). I found it really difficult to compile this list as I had many great travel experiences this year, but I tried anyway!

THE BEST INSTAGRAM SPOTS IN PORTO + GREAT KID FRIENDLY CAMPSITE IN PORTO

Visiting Porto was my travel highlight of the year! Walking the colorful streets of Porto was a true pinch me moment. 2021 was the year I finally got to visit the blue tiled miracle that is Porto. Porto is such a beautiful city, you will find great spots everywhere you look. Yet, it isn’t too perfect and it is still a little rough around the edges. We visited in August 2021 and I was happily surprised that it was very easy to take pictures everywhere (except for one place…), as Porto wasn’t too crowded. In this blogpost I accumulated the best Instagram spots in Porto, but to be honest, Porto is one big Instagram hotspot. Just note that Porto is situated on a hill and visiting all these sights requires taking a lot of stairs. Porto probably was the most stroller-unfriendly location I have ever visited, so you might want to take a baby carrier if you are visiting with a kid.

SAN SEBASTIAN: A MUST VISIT FOR BEACH LOVERS!

San Sebastian had been on my bucket list for quite some time and this summer we finally made it to this area. If you want to enjoy a few days on the beach, but also have the wide array of restaurants and shops at your display, San Sebastian is the perfect destination. I personally found that San Sebastian does not have a list of top sights that you should see, but I really liked the overall vibe of the city. Culturally I found it less interesting than its neighbor Bilbao and rivaling Barcelona, but it was a good visit nonetheless. I tried to capture San Sebastian’s vibe in pictures, to give you a good idea of what to expect when visiting this charming place.
