Though it was never on my bucket list, people kept telling me how beautiful La Rochelle is. So while we were on our way to Ile-de-Re I made sure to factor in some time to visit La Rochelle. La Rochelle is famous for its old harbor and the narrow alleyways with half-timbered houses. La Rochelle is one of the most put-together cities I have ever seen, as all the houses are built in a similar style and consists of only a few shades of beige. You know I am usually about colorful places, but I must admit I found La Rochelle very impressive because of its clean look.

I had no idea that Strasbourg & the Alsace were such a beautiful travel destination during fall, which is exactly why I am sharing this recommendation with you. I visited Strasbourg for four nights at the end of October and we were surprised by peak colors for the leaves. This region is particularly stunning when you go to the vineyards, which have all changed color as well. I already knew that the Alsace is gorgeous, but I didn’t know that Strasbourg is definitely worth a visit as well. You can read my recommendations for this area in this blog.

The Baumwipfelpfad in the Black Forest in Germany had been on my to go list for quite some time. Originally, we planned to go last July, but we never ended up there because we incurred some issues with our van… And I was really glad we never ended up there, because then I probably wouldn’t have had this amazing experience in autumn time! The Black Forest is one of Germany’s best locations for autumn colors and I was super impressed by how colorful and accessible the region was. We combined our visit to the Baumwipfelpfad with an afternoon walk and early dinner in Baden-Baden, one of Germany’s chiquest spa towns. We really loved Baden-Baden and are already looking forward to spending a long weekend there, without little Huug, so we can enjoy the thermal baths as well.
