POOR MAN’S GALAPAGOS: BALLESTAS ISLANDS & PARACAS WITH PERU HOP

From Lima we decided to go to Paracas. In Paracas you will find a beautiful nature reserve and you can do a boat trip to the Ballestas Islands. The Ballestas Islands are dubbed as the Poor man’s Galapagos as you will find many sealions, penguins and birds on the islands. You are not allowed to set foot on the islands, but the islands are very small, so you easily see all the animals from the boat. We did this tour with Peru Hop and they will take us all the way to Cusco, via the safe, southern route.

BEACH BUMS IN MÁNCORA, PERU

From Cuenca in Ecuador we took a direct night bus to Máncora in Peru which took us 8 hours including the boarder crossing. Máncora is a very popular beach location for Peruvian people, but I must admit I had never heard of it before. Máncora is located perfectly in between Ecuador and Lima and we were really glad we got to spend two days in this charming beach town. If you are into kite or wave surfing, Máncora is the place to be, when we visited there were several competitions going on which made for a fun watch!

We spent two nights in Lima, and after initially being quite shocked by some of the neighborhoods in this city, we did make the best out of it and enjoyed our time. When we visited it was over 20 degree celsius during the daytime, but we never saw any sun in Lima. Read on to discover what we did in Lima and beware that the photography light was awful…
