WHY A VISIT TO THE PALAU DE LA MUSICA CATALANA IS WORTH IT!

JUNE 2022

In March 2022 I revisited the Palau de la Musica Catalana, after many years of not having been inside the building and I was completely wowed again. I find that not enough people visit this absolute gem, so I dedicated a seperate blog to our visit. This is such an underrated sight in Barcelona, even though the terrace with columns has somewhat taken off on Instagram. Palau de la Musica Catalana can now be visited on a self guided tour, which I found the ideal way to visit.

Practical information

The only way to visit the Palau de la Musica Catalana used to be a guided-tour or to attend a concert. However, for some time now, you can book self-guided tours via the official website, providing you with sufficient time to enjoy the palau and take pictures. A self-guided tour costs € 14 per person and it is necessary to book a time slot. The Palau was finished in 1908 and its architect is Domenech i Montaner. Domenech has designed many buildings in Barcelona, dominating the street views even more than Gaudi, but has somehow ended up less famous. The Palau is a fine example of a building in the Art Nouveau style, meaning it is decorated very stylish, including lots of stained glass and rounded shapes. It is stroller and wheelchair friendly as you can visit the different levels by elevator. Palau de la Musica Catalana is located right next to the Gothic Quarter, making it very easy to visit. Next to the concert hall you will find a restaurant, completely in Art Nouveau style. When there are no concerts, it is not necessary to make reservations.

Pictures to inspire you to visit

The most famous part of the Palau is the terrace with the mosaic columns, which definitely has the wow factor. You will find the terrace featured all over Instagram, but what you won’t see as often is the concert hall that features the best and most colorful chandelier ceiling I have ever seen and super beautiful stained glass. Throughout the Palau you will find over 2000 of decorative roses. If you love classical music, I would recommend to visit a concert. It will be the most beautiful concert hall you have ever seen. We came to visit for the architecture and were very happy with our tour.
