PROCIDA: ITALY’S BEST KEPT SECRET

NOVEMBER 2025

The real reason we visited Naples in October is because I wanted to visit the island Procida. Procia is only a short ferry ride away from Naples, but foreigners often skip it in favor of the more famous Capri. Colorful Procida is still relatively unknown and the Italians have somehow managed to keep it a secret. On this island you will not find large chain or luxury hotels, meaning less tourists than on the other islands. If you love affordable, colorful destinations surrounded by azure sea, you have to visit before it gets too popular! I hope my blogpost inspires you to visit a relatively unknown destination.

Practical information

Depending on which ferry you book, you can be on Procida within 35 minutes from Naples. We visited during the shoulder season and the hydrofoils were canceled often, I would recommend taking a slow ferry in the off season (1 hour). On Procida you will not find large chain hotels, but there are some B&Bs, small boutique hotels and family run hotels. We were pretty late with booking and we prefered the options on neighbor-island Ischia, so that is where we stayed. Ferrys between Ischia and Procida run often and only take 20 minutes. As we visited at the end of October the island was incredibly quiet and we loved exploring it while it was a sunny 22 degrees. Procida has some beaches as well, but we didn’t visit as it was not the right season.

Procida Italy's secret

Procida: hidden gem in Italy

I mainly wanted to visit Procida because of the pictures of the Belvedere Corricella. From this viewpoint you can look all over the island and enjoy the spectacular views over the Corricella fishing harbor. From the harbor the viewpoint is about 20 minutes walking on a slow incline, very doable. I think the most comparable destination I have ever visited is Santorini. And if you are a true fan of the blog, you know how much I love Santorini. I am sure Procida gets somewhat busy during the summer, but in October we were almost alone visiting the viewpoint. From the viewpoint you can do a short walk down the stairs to get to the Corricella harbor. You will pass all sorts of “backyard-terraces” and tunnels, a cute little adventure.

As we visited during the shoulder season, some restaurants were already closed. We discovered the amazing Ristorante Pizzeria Fuego in the harbor and had the best pizza we ever had. On Procida you will also find great artstores and small boutiques. Some touristy stuff as well, but nothing too bad.

Procida is pretty walkable, after our visit to the Corricella harbor, we walked back up in the direction of Casale Vascello. This is an old courtyard, super serene and authentic. I loved wandering the quiet streets in this area. Also make sure to visit Santuario di Santa Maria delle Grazie Incoronata.
