JULY 2024
Schloss Linderhof is one of the lesser known castles of King Ludwig II and I don’t get why this magical spot is not more famous. You can visit the palace by tour and you can roam around the gardens at your own pace. Of all Ludwig’s castles, this one certainly has the most beautiful garden and location.

Practical information
Schloss Linderhof is located in the South of Bayern, near the Austrian border. You can buy your tickets at the ticket desk or in advance online. The tickets to enter the palace & gardens cost โฌ 10 per person. We also booked the guided tour for the palace and this is where our online tickets were checked. The parking is paid. The parking lot is quite big and there are plenty of campervan spots as well. It does take over 10 minutes to walk from the parking to the castle, so keep that in mind when you have booked a tour. You are not allowed to take pictures inside the castle, which makes it extra worth it to book the tour. I would recommend to spend 2-3 hours at Schloss Linderhof, including the castle tour which takes about 40 minutes.
Linderhof gardens
We love Ludwig’s castles, there are lots of crazy design details, he certainly had an eye for architecture. We had previously visited Schloss Neuschwanstein & we did a tour at Schloss Herrenchiemsee. Of all these castles Linderhof certainly has the best gardens. The gardens are incredibly idyllic and surrounded by forests and mountains. We visited on a Sunday morning and there was still a magical fog hanging over the mountains, it was such a special sight. We had our tour at 9.30AM and were surprised at the lack of crowds. It didn’t start getting busy until 11AM and even then it was still very doable in June.
I think pictures say more than words, so I hope my pictures show you what a must visit Schloss Linderhof is!
