MAY 2025
This spring we went on a campervan roadtrip in Northern Germany. We loved Hamburg on a previous visit and always knew we wanted to explore more of this region. You can do many daytrips from Hamburg and even go to the Baltic Sea. Unfortunately, we visited in a cold weekend, but this couldn’t dampen our spirits. In this blogpost I have included recommendations for daytrips in Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Bremen and Niedersachsen.
Lรผbeck
Let’s start with one of my favorites: Lรผbeck. It is a relatively well known city for Germans, but hasn’t been discovered by foreign tourists yet. It features little alleyways, cobblestone streets, colorful houses and gothic monuments. Lรผbeck has that perfect combination of quiet nature and relaxed cultural sights. I have written a separate blogpost on Lรผbeck, which you can find here.

Timmendorfer Strand
Timmendorfer Strand is one of the cutest beaches near Hamburg. It is located at the Baltic Sea and this area is known for it’s typical beachchairs, the strandkorb. You will find the beach packed with these colorful beach chairs. We didn’t have any trouble spontaneously booking a strandkorb, but you can also book one online.

Wismar
We visited over the Easter weekend and found a gorgeous cherry blossom park in Wismar (near Spielplatz “Schatterau”). Apparently, Wismar is quite the cherry blossom hotspot. Besides this, it has a colorful city center and a lively harbor.

Heide Himmel
Heide Himmel is a gorgeous baumwipfelpfad with lookout tower. Next to the Heide Himmel is a relaxed Wild Park, where you can see animals such as wolves, bears and tigers. Fun for parents and kids!

Schloss Schwerin
If you are looking for a castle with an original garden, look no further than Schloss Schwerin. We loved the location at the lake and would highly recommend a visit for a few hours.

Bremen
We didn’t bring a visit to Bremen this time, but I still wanted to include it as it is a perfect daytrip from Hamburg. We have spent a lovely weekend in Bremen during autumn and you can find my blogpost here. Don’t forget to explore the cutest borough Schnoor!

Rapeseed fields
Definitely try to include a visit to a rapeseed field in your daytrip, if you are visiting in spring. There are so many beautiful rapeseed fields in Northern Germany. When we found a little path that led into the field, I just had to go in.
