WINE TASTING IN SOAVE

On our Italian-Croatian roadtrip we were looking for a spot to relax for a few days and taste some wines. When visiting Italy, the “agriturismos” (farmstays) are a nice way to enjoy the country, so of course we wanted to stay in an agriturismo. As we were roadtripping from Venice to Lago di Como, Verona was the perfect halfway location to stay for a few days. We stayed for three nights in the agriturismo “Monte Tondo” in Soave, close to Verona. The best thing is that Monte Tondo produces wine and is therefore able to call itself an agriturismo. Monte Tondo has rooms of about € 80 per night and the rooms comes with a fridge that is filled with delicious own-produced wines. We found the fridge the perfect way to do some wine tasting of the Soave region! Monte Tondo produces white, red and sparkling wines, so there is something for everyone. When you stay at Monte Tondo you can also use the swimming pool and bubble bath. When we visited it was super quiet and we had the place to ourselves every day. The only downside of Monte Tondo is that it does not have a restaurant, there are many great restaurants in Soave town, but you can only go there by car. The road from Monte Tondo into town is too dangerous to walk, even though it is only 10 minutes.

Food

When staying in Italy you will hardly ever have a bad meal, but I want to particularly recommend one restaurant: Locanda ai Capitelli. This restaurant is more upscale than other options we tried, but was really worth it. The restaurant has a lovely terrace with views over Soave and its beautiful castle. When I think back of this meal I want to go there right now!

Activities

We went to Verona for a daytrip, but did not end up loving this city. It is a nice place to go for shopping and it has some good sights. However the small city center draws too much of a crowd. The Romeo and Juliet balcony was kind of a letdown/tourist trap.

That’s why we decided to go to a waterpark the next day. We went to Canevaworld, which was a fun waterpark, though it was a bit run down. It was the perfect activity to beat the heat.
