YORK: IT IS EVEN PRETTY IN THE RAIN

MARCH 2023

We started last summer’s road trip in York. I was really looking forward to exploring the old city center and its city walls. York has a super pretty town center, with lots of colorful storefronts. Unfortunately we got caught in lots of rain. Together with the Lake District, the Yorkshire Moors seem to be the rainiest locations in England and we got our share of it. I would still highly recommend a visit to York and in this blogpost I will outline my favorite spots.

York

We ended up not seeing a whole lot of York as we had to visit it in between showers. We got absolutely drenched on our first walk, but luckily the weather cleared a little bit later in the day so I was able to take some quick snaps at York Minster and the Shambles, the two spots I really wanted to see. In summertime the streets surrounding York Minster are decorated in flowers, which I accidentally matched with my pink trousers. Unfortunately, we never ended up walking York’s city walls, which was something I really wanted to do, but it was just too wet and we couldn’t see a thing because of the rain. The Shambles is a medieval style shopping street in the middle of York, it is one of York’s most famous landmarks and it usually is super crowded during the day. We visited it right when the weather cleared and were able to take some snaps. I found York’s city center super charming and I would have loved to explore more of it, but we already had plans in Scotland. York is definitely on the list of locations where I want to return. Before we visited York, we visited Yorkshire lavender, on which you can read my blogpost here. On our way to Yorkshire lavender we saw the lovely countryside, the Brideshead Revisited and caught a glimpse of the Yorkshire Moors. This area definitely has enough to offer for its own little trip!

Camping in York

York turned out to be a popular region for campers (people who do not care about the rain apparently) and you can find many campsites close to York. I just had to share the beautiful rainbow that surrounded our campervan!
