GUIDE FOR THE BEST PHOTO LOCATIONS IN GHENT

FEBRUARY 2023

I spontaneously ended up in Ghent for a weekend in February and I was very happy with my decision to go. February turned out to be the perfect month to enjoy a relatively sleepy Ghent and take lots of pictures of my favorite city in Belgium. In this blogpost I will let you in on all my favorite photo spots in Ghent!

Recommendations for taking pictures

I visited Ghent in February, which I discovered was the perfect time to visit Ghent. We waited for a weekend with good weather and booked a hotel last minute. Ghent is incredibly sleepy in February and even on a weekend we didn’t run into people until 11AM, which was perfect for taking pictures. So please keep in mind that most of these pictures were taken on a Sunday morning before 11AM in February, a month that is not very popular with tourism. I highly recommend visiting Ghent in the off-season as it is so much more enjoyable.

Gravensteen

Gravensteen is a medieval castle that you can find in the heart of Ghent. You can also visit the interiors, which I have done a few years ago, so now I only went to take some pictures with this unique location.

Graslei and Korenlei

If you wonder where those iconic Ghent pictures are taken, it is probably on the Graslei and Korenlei.

Sint-Michielsbrug

If there is one spot in Ghent which is worth getting up early for it is the Sint-Michielsbrug (Saint Michael’s bridge). When we visited we even had some seagulls going our photo, making it even more picturesque. To me this spot felt like a Harry Potter movie.

Belfrey of Ghent

You will spot this tower from many angles in Ghent, but I think the best location to take pictures with it, is from the Emile Braune plein. If you pick the right angle you can also get the Cathedral in your pic!

Patershol

Patershol is one of the old boroughs of Ghent, which is very trendy right now. The houses are very well maintained and you will find lots of colorful doors adding just some interest to your pictures.

Serpentstraat

I loved the colorful flags in the Serpentstraat and you can find some interesting stores in this street as well!

Graffiti street

I did not 100% love the graffiti street, but I must admit it is a good spot to take pictures. It is a little bit hidden, so enjoy the search 🙂

Foodhall in the Dokken

There is a foodhall in the Dokken, which is a more industrial part of Ghent. I loved adding this variation to our trip, so we went to trendy Røk for a quick lunch. Absolutely loved the architecture, good food and a good photo spot! If you walk from the city center to the Dokken you will also encounter lots of street art.
