OUR VISIT TO SKY GARDEN LONDON

MARCH 2020

On my most recent visit to London I decided to visit Sky Garden, which can be described as an observatory building, featuring an indoor garden and restaurants. Sky Garden is 160 meters high and it is located near the Tower Bridge and The Shard, so obviously it offers amazing views over these buildings. As it is called Sky Garden it features a garden with exotic plants, which gives your pictures of the city a beautiful green frame. If you love stunning city views, don’t hesitate to come here! An added bonus of your visit is that it is completely free!

If you take a close look, you can spot St Pauls behind me..

Practical Information

Sky Garden has opened in 2015 and it is the highest public garden of London at 160 meters. Sky Garden spans three floors and has an enormously high ceiling, creating space for large windows offering some of the best views of London. All you need to do before you can visit Sky Garden is book a timeslot on the official website. Sky Garden is free to visit, but by giving you a time slot peaks in visitors will be managed appropriately. If you want to have dinner at Sky Garden, you can make a reservation for a restaurant, as they have different types of restaurants. In the case you just want to have a drink, that is also possible and you don’t need a reservation for that. I personally did not think the restaurants offered much of an extra view, so I wouldn’t pay extra for that experience, but it might be nice for a special occasion.

Excitement about the views

I really liked how accessible Sky Garden was, as it is suitable for each budget. We decided on having drinks at Sky Garden and we quickly found seats. We paid about 34 pounds for four alcoholic drinks, which is expensive, but I found it justified given the views. Do not expect a fancy surrounding in the bar, the bar is located in the middle of the garden and it is quite noisy, but overall the atmosphere was good and relaxed. I found Sky Garden to be a bit chilly, so make sure to dress accordingly.

Cheers!
Loved having drinks with a view of the Shard!

I think we spent about 1,5 hours in Sky Garden, to enjoy the views and our drinks. We made sure to book a spot in the afternoon, so we would have some daylight views as well as seeing the city lights. I particularly liked being able to watch the Tower Bridge and Tower from up above, as they are beautiful, iconic landmarks of London.
