PLANSEE: BETTER THAN LAGO DI BRAIES

We visited Plansee as the first stop on our August Austria roadtrip. This beautiful lake is located just past the German border in west Austria, so it was the perfect first stop for us as we were driving from the Netherlands. I had seen some beautiful pictures of Plansee on Instagram and was super exited to visit, but also a bit hesitant as I have been disappointed in these kind of locations before, as pictures don’t tell the full story. For example Lago di Braies in the Dolomotis is overrun with people and it is almost impossible to beat the crowds. This leads to a traffic jam like hike, which is exactly what you don’t want when you visit a nature phenomenon. Luckily, Plansee is just as picturesque as in the pictures and surprisingly it was tranquil when we visited. If you are visiting Austria, or even just passing through, you should definitely put Plansee on your must visit list!

A WEEKEND OF CAMPING IN THE MOSEL AND THE EIFFEL: COCHEM, BURG ELTZ AND TRIER

In the beginning of July we went camping in the Mosel & the Eiffel for a long weekend. We were actually supposed to go to Baden-Wurttemberg, but never ended up there because of an incident that I won’t talk about 😉 Luckily, we ended up having a great weekend and I can highly recommend visiting this area. It is perfect for camping, as there are lots of cheap opportunities near the river and the little villages. Because of the high supply and diversity of campsites you can be super flexible and don’t have to plan, it really is a camper’s paradise. Just make sure you do some research before you go to this area, as some parts have been destroyed by the terrible floods in July. As I am writing this blogpost, Cochem and Trier have reopened to tourism after the floods in these regions. Burg Eltz did not suffer from the floods.

THE PERFECT DAY TRIP: MONSCHAU AND AACHEN

I made the perfect daytrip to Monschau and Aachen in July 2021. When we visited there were no border restrictions for Dutchies visiting Germany, so that was the perfect timing to make a quick visit to Germany. I was super surprised by how pretty Monschau and Aachen were and I definitely recommend making a visit. Monschau is about 45 minutes of driving from Aachen, so you can easily combine the two towns in one day. Monschau did suffer from the floods in July, but you can now visit Monschau again.
