THINGS TO DO IN CARTAGENA AND HOW TO VISIT THE ROSARIO ISLANDS

I was super excited to go to Cartagena (Colombia) as it is described as a cleaned up version of Havana, that does have Havana’s old charm. Cartagena is a quick 2,5 hour flight from Miami, but because the immigration line was very long it still took us quite some time to get into town. Cartagena’s airport is located very closely to the old town, which is where we would be staying. Hielke gifted me a charming boutique hotel in the heart of the old town for my birthday, to make sure we would have the best experience in Cartagena, which had been on my bucket list for a long time! We combined our stay in Cartagena with two nights on the Rosario Islands, which are about an hour away by boat. This combination was the perfect introduction into our travels in Colombia! We still stay in Colombia for about 2,5 weeks and we are curious if our next destinations will live up to our experience in Cartagena & the Rosario Islands.

I’M IN MIAMI BEACH!

We were gifted a hotel voucher for our wedding and decided to put the voucher to use in Miami. Miami consists of many neighborhoods, which are more like little cities itself, and together they comprise Miami. This means Miami is very stretched out and you need to move around quite a bit to get a feel of the city. It also creates that there is no specific area that is good to stay at, as you will always be far removed from other interesting parts of Miami. We visited the several areas by using Uber and the few free trolleys that drive around town. We were a bit disappointed in the lack of public transport (besides the trolleys), as taking a bus into another part of town could take you 1,5 hours because you have to switch buses several times. Besides the public transport, we really enjoyed ourselves in Miami. The activities and neighborhoods are super diverse and we loved hearing Spanish everywhere! Miami is among one of the cities in the US with the highest number of inhabitants that originate from other countries, with a high percentage of Cubans living in Miami. We had lots of Uber drivers from Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia and other Latin American countries! Visiting Miami definitely was a good preparation for our next travels through Latin America, as we were dusting off our rusty Spanish 😉 In this blogpost I will explain about some of Miami’s neighborhoods and the activities that we did.

ROAD TRIP IN FLORIDA AND BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS IN PALM BEACH

Miami is a location I have always wanted to visit. It made sense to do a road trip to Miami from Savannah, so I did some research regarding other activities we could do in Florida. We decided on visiting St. Augustine, Crystal River (manatees!!), Palm Beach, Delray Beach and the Florida Keys, before we would return our rental car in Miami. We loved the Caribbean vibes and relaxedness in Florida, read about our experiences in Florida in this blogpost.
