WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT BURG RHEINSTEIN/CASTLE RHEINSTEIN

AUGUST 2022

If you are looking for a super charming castle with spectacular views, which is not overrun by crowds yet, I have found the perfect location for you! Burg Rheinstein is located in the Rheingau area, a region focused on producing wine, not too far from Wiesbaden in Germany. I found this castle by clicking on it’s location on google maps, it hasn’t found Instagram fame yet, so you can still visit it in a relaxed way. In this blog you can find out all about why you should visit Castle Rheinstein.

Practical information

Burg Rheinstein is located about 20 minutes of driving from Wiesbaden. It is located only a few minutes off highway 61, so it also makes for the perfect pitstop. You can park for free in the parking, which is located at the bottom of the castle. You just need to bring the blue parking sign, as the free parking is limited at two hours. The castle is a few minutes of hiking upwards, over a path that is stroller friendly. Entrance tickets to the castle cost € 7, no need to make online reservations. Burg Rheinstein has a lovely restaurant “The Kleiner Weinprinz” with a terrace overlooking the castle. You can only access it if you have tickets to the castle. We had a delicious flammkuchen and tasted the wine which comes from the castle’s vineyards.

Burg Rheinstein

The castle itself is not that big, it is decorated in a typical medieval style, as to be expected. There are some interesting rooms, with beautiful stained glass and spiral staircases. On the other hand, some rooms feature dilapidated wallpaper and I must admit that I have seen better castle interiors. However, you should not come here for the decorations, but you must come for the views and the exteriors.

The castle features a little rose garden as well, which was fun to see in bloom and provided a nice contrast with the medieval castle walls.

The castle is family run and lots of family members have a job at the castle, this can really be felt when you visit the castle. In wintertime the castle is turned into a fairtytale christmas spectacle.
