If you love traditional half-timbered houses, you should add Idstein to your Germany itinerary. I love these fairytale like villages and Idstein really delivers on this. The town is incredibly well maintained and because people actually live there, it does not feel like it is just built for tourism. You will find some houses that are built with beautiful details, such as colorful wood carvings. In the town you will also find two towers, which provide the perfect focus point for your pictures.

Practical information

Idstein is located in Hessen, in the West of Germany. It is a town of about 25.000 inhabitants and you will find that it is quite a lively town. There are several restaurants and pubs that you can visit. We stayed in Idstein for the night, in Hotel Goldeness Lamm, which was a typically dated hotel, but the lovely owner made up for that with good service, so I would recommend it. We were able to park for free at the edge of the city center, at P Hexenturm.
