FEBRUARY 2023
The Czech Republic features many interesting rock formations. In the Bohemian Switzerland area you can find Tiske Steny, which is a gorgeous park, where you can admire, climb and walk through rocks. Tiske Steny is relatively undiscovered and therefore not crowded at all. We visited during wintertime, but apparantly it is still quite calm in summer too. Tiske Steny is located on the border with Germany, so make sure to visit once you are in the area!
Practical information
You will find Tiske Steny near the village Tisa, on the Czech-German border. There is a parking lot close to the entrance, we couldn’t get the ticket machine to work so it seemed free in winter. In Czech Republic you have many nature parks that are free to visit in winter and this was also the case for Tiske Steny. Because the ticket office was not open in winter it was difficult to find information on the different hikes you could do. There is a small circuit and a big circuit. We ended up doing the big circuit, which took us about 2 hours including photo stops and Hugo walking by himself. There are some slippery stairs, but there is no real incline, so the hike is suitable for most people. There is a second parking lot to access Tiske Steny, near restaurant Turistickรก chata Tisรก. This restaurant seemed open in wintertime as well and you will pass it on the big circuit. There were toilets near the parking lot.

Kid friendly activity
Tiske Steny was for sure Hugo’s favorite activity on our Czech Republic trip and maybe it was mine as well. If you have an adventurous kid, Tiske Steny is perfect for you! It is like a big play paradise, with lots of rocks you can climb, places where you can hide, rock formations that you can look through.

If you are looking for the quintessential Tiske Steny view of the rocks from above, you should go left upon arrival to the ticket booth, refer to pictures below.

We turned right when we started and made a big round before we got to the viewpoint, which was perfect for us. If you don’t want to do hours of hiking, you can also head to the viewpoint on your left and do the first group of rocks on the right, and you still will have a good sense of Tiske Steny.
