JULY 2023
If you are looking for an easy hike in Switzerland which works very well with kids, look no further than the Mürren – Grütschalp hike. We had a lovely afternoon exploring this area of the Jungfrau region. In this blogpost I will tell you exactly how to do this hike in the best way and I will show you what you will encounter along the way!
How to get to Mürren
We stayed in Lauterbrunnen and to get to Mürren you can take the gondola to Grütschalp and from there transfer onto the train to Mürren. We had the Jungfrau travel pass and these rides were included. If you need to buy local rides it will cost up to € 30 for this way of transport. We absolutely loved the gondola as it provides you with beautiful views of Lauterbrunnen.
Mürren
Mürren is a carfree alpine village, it is full with wooden chalets and hotels and provides a beautiful view over the Jungfrau, Eiger and the Monch mountains. Overall, a stunning place to visit and a wonderful place to stay!
The hike
We hiked from Mürren to Grütschalp, which is taking the hike in the downward direction at only a slight decline. The hike in total takes over just an hour, making it the perfect hike to do with kids. On your way you will encounter fields of wildflowers filled with cows. I just loved the sound of the bells of the cows! Halfway you will find the train station Winteregg which had a lovely alpine restaurant where we had lunch. Never knew apple sauce was so big in Switzerland, but we loved the combination with a savory pasta. We visited in June and no need for reservations, we saw lots of tables and chairs which could be used to enlarge the terrace. We found that all alpine restaurants in Switzerland had the best playgrounds!
