ONE WEEK JUNGFRAU ITINERARY

AUGUST 2023

In June we spent one week in the Jungfrau region. We stayed in Lauterbrunnen and each day we explored a different part of the Jungfrau. We fell in love! It is such a diverse holiday region, with beautiful villages, mountains and lakes everywhere. We loved the combination of hiking, relaxing and enjoying Swiss cuisine. In this blogpost you will find a 7 nights, 6 day itinerary for this must visit in Switzerland!

Where we stayed

We went to Lauterbrunnen with our camper van and ended up spending the week in Camping Jungfrau. From Camping Jungfrau you could already see the famous Staubbach waterfall, as it is located right next to the campsite. You can find more on on our experience at this campsite in this blogpost. Lauterbrunnen is a small village that consists of a few streets, so you can’t really go wrong with lodging as everything is within walking distance. Because of the limited amount of lodging I do recommend to book early, to avoid very high prices. Switzerland is very expensive so you will easily pay € 200 per night for a simple room. Camping Jungfrau had some cabins as well, which seemed of good value.

Other charming options in the Jungfrau region are Grindelwald and Wengen. We adored Mürren as well, but staying here adds a lot of travel time due to the train + gondola situation.

Day 1

Take the gondola from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren, to explore this charming carfree village. Hike to train station Winteregg, where you will find a cozy alpine restaurant for a traditional lunch. After lunch, you hike further to Grütschalp where you take the gondola back down. On your way you will have the most beautiful views over Lauterbrunnen. Enjoy a sunny day in Lauterbrunnen, exploring the waterfalls and the iconic viewpoint in front of Chalet Pironnet.

Day 2

Get ready for snowy mountain views! Today you take the train to the Eigergletscher. Here you will have amazing views over the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau. From Eigergletscher you hike to Kleine Scheidegg over a rocky ledge. In Kleine Scheidegg you rest with an alpine lunch. From here you continue your hike to train station Wengernalp, on your way you will encounter many wildflower fields!

Day 3

Today is the day to visit the Jungfraujoch. It is a very expensive visit, but if you buy the Jungfrau Travel Pass you get a hefty discount. I would recommend to buy the travel pass as it will safe you time and money if you want to do this itinerary. On the Jungfraujoch you can visit an ice palace, go sleighing, hiking in the snow and even zip lining!

Day 4

Of course you also have to visit Grindelwald! In Grindelwald there is a lot to do, it is the action capital of Switzerland. There are several areas where you can hike, but if you want to do a zipline or go-karting down the mountains, Grindelwald First is where you need to go. I can tell you that the cheese fondue at Bort gondola station was really good!

Day 5

We take a day off from hiking and visit the lakes instead. If you make a good planning it is possible to visit Lake Brienz & Lake Thun in one day. The water in the lakes is glacier water, so expect it to be really cold! Both villages are stunning and you can even visit nearby fairytale town Iseltwald.

Day 6

Let’s start the day in Wengen, from Wengen you take the gondola up to Männlichen, where there are some gorgeous viewpoints! The Liselotte hike faces in the direction of Grindelwald, which is a nice change of scenery compared to the other days. If you are lucky the Panoramaroute to Kleine Scheidegg is open, if the snow has melted.
