Hielke and I made a list of things that we hadn’t visited in The Netherlands yet and on the Biesbosch was on top of this list. The Biesbosch is a nature reserve full with little canals and the home of the beaver. It was about time that we would visit the Dutch version of a mangrove 😉 We decided to combine our trip to the Biesbosch with a visit to Kinderdijk, a Dutch heritage site. We stayed the weekend in a gypsy wagon in Alblasserdam, which is located in the middle of the Biesbosch and Kinderdijk.

I can’t believe I am almost about to cross the Dutch borders again. By the the time you read this I hope to be on my way to France, but I guess I will believe it when we actually arrive. In France we will visit the Provence, one of my happy places, that is also included in this list. For this blog I made a list of the most beautiful historic city centers in the world. I love visiting places that feel like a different era. That feeling like you are walking in an open-air museum, but people actually live there. I am very lucky to live in Europe, as historic places usually are perfectly preserved in Europe (with special thanks to UNESCO world heritage).

For me, 2020 will go down as the year that I hardly visited locations from my bucket list, but did lots and lots of Dutch day trips instead. Zaanse Schans is an activity that belongs in the list of Keukenhof, Giethoorn, Volendam and Kinderdijk. These are locations that hardly cross my mind when planning a trip, so I had not done too many of these trips before 2020. You have to keep yourself entertained in times of crisis, so I decided to make a day trip to Zaandam and Zaanse Schans with my mother.
